Driving and eyesight problems
In a world that requires us to travel long distances on a regular basis, being able to drive your own vehicle is an important trait to have. However, one of the first things to be aware of when driving is that you should ensure you aren’t suffering from any eyesight issues, and if you are then get the appropriate equipment, such as glasses to help you alleviate the problem.
When it comes to applying for a driving licence, the law in the UK states that you must declare whether you have eyesight problems, excluding short- and long-sightedness (myopia or hyperopia respectively) or colour blindness. You should also let them know if you have undertaken surgery to correct your vision.
You will be required to do an eyesight test as part of the practical exam, which consists of reading a licence plate from a certain distance away. If you find you have to wear glasses in order to pass the test, then you must wear glasses whenever you drive too.
Wearing glasses whilst driving is no different than someone who can drive without them. That ebing said, certain types of glasses or special lenses may affect your perception. If you use varifocals take care to actually turn your head when checking traffic and your surroundings, as they can affect your perception when looking to the side.
