The Bugatti Veyron is one of the world’s fastest, most expensive and rarest cars. With a two-year waiting list and a UK price in excess of £850,000, it is arguably the pinnacle of supercars available today. The car was developed in the early years of the new millennium by Bugatti’s parent company Volkswagen and at an incredible a development cost rumoured to be at around £2million per car, each Veyron is actually sold at a loss. However the car’s status as one of the ultimate feats of automotive technology has helped raise the profile of the Volkswagen group, so the car is in fact something of a loss leader.

The car was named after Bugatti ace of the 1930s Pierre Veyron, and even though the car was developed by the German money of the Volkswagen group, it is still French-built, being hand assembled at Molsheim, Alsace,

The Veyron currently holds the world record for the fastest accelerating and decelerating car, being able to accelerate to 100mph and then come to a complete standstill in just 9.6 seconds. The 0-60 time is just over two seconds, with the car’s top speed restricted to 233mph for everyday usage, however once de-restricted will travel in excess of 250mph, with a reported top speed of 253mph.
